Why we chose here? We purchased a Texas State Park pass to save money on entrance fees at McKinney Falls. You get 4 days of half price campground fees (one per stay) with the pass. We wanted to use another one of those. Plus, this park looked really gorgeous.
Location: Spring Branch, TX (40 miles north of the River Walk in San Antonio)
Sites: We had a paved spot for the truck and airstream, picnic table, fire pit, trees between sites but they were kind of close together
Amenities: Trash, restrooms and showers, only water and electric hookups with a dump station, lots of hiking, swimming
Groceries: We didn’t get anything locally.
Cell Coverage/Wifi: No wifi, not good coverage with either carrier at our site. But it seemed like other sites got better coverage and I had Verizon signal near the river and parking lot.
Price Paid: $50 for three nights (no entrance fees because we have the Texas State Parks pass and we had one half price night with that)
Date of Visit: Dec 2014
Other: Bathrooms and showers were nice. The river and the canyon are breathtaking.
Would we come here again: Probably, but it was quite a ways out of San Antonio and the campsites are deep into the park. If you’re planning to stay in the park most of the time, it’s great.
